Call for Fiction! — Anthology "Broken People" (2021)
Email proposal/manuscript to jjkoikoi@gmail.com to submit
We are looking for fiction raging from flash to novella length. In addition, I am incorporating photography into the anthology so if you are interested in that as well, or know somebody who is, that’s a thing.
The topic of the anthology will be people dealing with trauma, identity, or false (perpetuated) reality. Do with that what you will. Be dark, be bold, be twisted; be tender, and simple, and wise; or be something else entirely.
Share this call with your friends, enemies, colleagues, casual partners, deliberate partners, lizard people, etc.
Please send manuscripts, screenshots, or just a “hey I have an idea for a thing” and we’ll talk about deadlines later.
For photographers, send a link to a portfolio.

EVENT 5/7/2017 — CALARTS WRITERS SHOWCASE
Next Words is a reading series and publication produced by CalArts featuring its graduating Creative Writing MFAs. Taking place in the spring at venues across Los Angeles—bookstores, art spaces, and even a former City Hall—it culminates in a final showcase at REDCAT. This year's anthology, entitled Running Moon, will also be available for purchase—a selection of fiction, poetry, nonfiction and hybrid genres curated and edited by the students.
Followed by a reception, the showcase offers an opportunity to experience work that is uniquely CalArts—the results of a writing programme housed within an art school.
This event is free and open to the public. Reservations are required due to limited seating. Call the REDCAT box office to make your reservation at     213-237-2800.

World Premier — Salomé — December 2-3 & 6-10 2016
The Walt Disney Modular Theater
Salomé, A tragedy by Oscar Wilde. Drawing upon ancient mythologies of feminine and biblical passages, Salome tells the story of Princess Salome of Judea, stepdaughter of King Herod, who becomes enthralled by the prophet, Jokanaan (John the Baptist). After he refuses to reciprocate her advances, she performs the infamous dance of the seven veils for the King to obtain the prophet’s severed head on a silver platter.  The production will feature 12 original songs by Ella Grace and a new adaption by Michael Alvarez.
This production infuses the classic text of Wilde with a vibrantly original pop/rock score. Through song, the characters are liberated to speak their truth beyond the written text and fight to free themselves from the historical narrative they are trapped in. Inspired by haute couture and art installation, this production will visually transport audiences into the haunting world that is Herod’s palace.
Directed by Michael Alvarez
